The short answer
Visit the Sistine Chapel as part of the Vatican Museums route. Follow the chapel’s silence, clothing and no-photography rules, and do not assume your ticket also includes St. Peter’s Basilica.
How admission works
Ordinary visits to the Sistine Chapel are organised through the Vatican Museums. When comparing tickets, check that museum admission is included and read the visit conditions on the official ticket office.
A product called a “Sistine Chapel tour” may describe a broader museum itinerary. Compare the complete route, duration and guide arrangements, rather than assuming it is a separate chapel-only entrance.

What to look for
Michelangelo’s ceiling contains the famous Creation of Adam within a much larger scheme of biblical scenes and figures. The Last Judgment occupies the altar wall and is a separate work from the ceiling.
The chapel also contains important wall frescoes by other Renaissance artists. Reading a short introduction beforehand helps you recognise more than the most familiar image and reduces the pressure to understand everything in a busy room.

Silence and photography
The official visitor rules prohibit photography and filming inside the Sistine Chapel. Put your phone and camera away rather than trying to take a discreet picture.
Silence is requested in the chapel. A guide may give the main explanation before entering; use that opportunity to ask questions. Follow staff instructions on movement and where visitors may stand.

Clothing and comfort
The Vatican Museums’ dress requirements apply to the Sistine Chapel. Avoid clothing specifically prohibited in the official rules, including sleeveless or low-cut garments and shorts above the knee.
A long museum route often precedes the chapel. Comfortable footwear and a manageable itinerary matter more than trying to arrive with a rigid minute-by-minute plan. Check accessibility arrangements in advance if needed.

What happens afterwards
Do not assume the exit from the chapel gives every visitor direct access to St. Peter’s Basilica. Any tour-specific access depends on the product and operational conditions.
If the Basilica is your next stop, allow for the route out of the Museums and the separate security queue. Leave room in your day for a pause; the chapel is not a good point from which to promise a fixed arrival at another attraction.
