The short answer
Choose your hotel against the entrance you will use most: the Museums on Viale Vaticano or the Basilica at St. Peter’s Square. “Near the Vatican” does not mean equally close to both.
Prati versus Borgo
Prati lies on the Rome side of the Vatican area, with a street layout that can suit travellers looking for a base near the Museums and Metro A. Borgo is the area immediately associated with the approach to St. Peter’s Square.
These are location choices, not a guarantee of a particular hotel experience. Check the actual address: a property’s description may use “Vatican” broadly even when its position is less convenient for your first booking.

A real property to investigate
Hotel Prati lists its address as Via Crescenzio 89 and identifies its location in Prati near the Vatican. It is a useful starting point for researching a stay in this part of Rome, not a claim that it is the best hotel for every traveller.
Use the hotel’s own website to confirm the address and room details, then compare availability and terms for your dates. No room price, guest-review score or specific amenity is assumed here.

Check distances to two different entrances
Plot a walking route from the hotel address to the Museums entrance and another to St. Peter’s Square. Compare the complete street route rather than a straight-line map distance.
If your guide meets at an office or nearby landmark, check that address as well. A convenient hotel for a Basilica visit may not be the shortest walk to an early museum meeting point.

Room details that matter
Ask about the exact room category, lift access, air conditioning, sleeping arrangements and street-facing position if any of these matter to you. Do not infer them from the neighbourhood or a booking photograph.
For families, confirm occupancy and bed configuration. For mobility needs, ask precise questions about the entrance, lift and bathroom rather than relying on a generic accessibility label.

Compare the full booking cost
Compare the same room and dates across offers. Breakfast, cancellation terms, payment timing and locally payable charges can change the value of a headline rate.
A Vatican-area base can simplify the first morning, but consider your whole trip. If most of your sightseeing is across the river, compare the location with Centro Storico or Trastevere before committing.
